Haslett Robotics Club’s FLL Teams Are Having a Great Season (so far)!

Haslett, November 25, 2013:  The Haslett Robotics Club (HRC) wishes to share news about its success thus far in the 2013 FIRST Lego League (FLL) season.  Among its 7 robotics teams, the HRC has 4 FLL teams, three of which compete in the fall and early winter.  The 9 to 14 year kids on the FLL teams work together to build and program robots, research and brainstorm on solutions to real world problems, and develop team spirit and core values.

The club’s first all-girl team, the Gear Girls, have won a first place award for Core Values – Teamwork, a team spirit award, and earned a trip to the state tournament taking place in December in Flint.

The Men In Brick team earned a Finalist, Project Innovation award as well as a Finalist, Core Values – Inspiration award.  Their overall scores also helped them earn a trip to the state tournament in December.

The kids of the Weapons of Math Instruction team won a Winner, Robot – Mechanical Design award and Finalist, Project Presentation award.  They also placed first alternate for the state championship.

In addition to the team achievements, the Haslett Robotics Club is pleased to announce that two of their coaches have won awards.  Coach Michele Loree won the Youth Mentor Award and Coach Steve Sneed took home the Coach / Mentor Award.

Additionally, the HRC had a non-competing FLL team that met frequently to learn robotics and teamwork skills.  The Psycho Draco Meteors worked together to build and program a robot to tackle the same missions as the competition teams, but with less focus on the research component of FLL.

The Haslett Robotics Club is looking forward to competing in the MI North & West Championship in Flint on December 14th in Flint.
